Potato curry (బంగాళాదుంప కూర, உருளைக்கிழங்கு சுற்றி, आलू करी) Potato Curry  is a generic description used throughout Western culture to describe a variety of spiced dishes, especially from Indian or other South Asian cuisines.

Regional Dish : Andhra; Tamilnadu; Kerala; Karnataka; South India and some places in North India.

Ingredients :

  • Potatoes4 Boiled.
  • Onion      large chopped fine   1
  • Tomatoes 2 large
  • Chopped Chili powder  1/2 tsp
  • Ginger paste    1/4 tsp
  • Garlic(optional) 1/4 tsp
  • Oil     2tbsp
  • Salt 1/2 tsp according to taste
  • Garam Masala 1 tsp
  • Mustard seeds1/2 tsp
  • Cumin Seeds 1/2 tsp
  • Asafoetid(hing)      a pinch


Method :

  1. Boil Potatoes. Peel and cube them.
  2. Chop onions and tomatoes
  3. Cut green chillies in pieces.
  4. Heat oil in a pan. Add mustard and cumin seed. When they stop spluttering, add Asafoetida(hing).
  5. Add chopped onion, fry till onions are transperant.
  6. Add chopped tomatoes. cook for 5 minutes.
  7. Add ginger/garlic paste, curry leaves. stir.
  8. Add cubed potatoes, salt, 1 cup water, garam masala, red chili powder. Stir.
  9. Bring to boil, Cover and cook for 5 minutes on low flame.
  10. Add chopped Coriander leaves(cilantro). Mix well.
  11. Serve it with Breads such as Chapati Phulka Poori Dosa – Indian Vegan Pancake.
