Green Peas Kachori (ગ્રીન પેંસ કચોરી, பட்டாணி  கசோர், हरी मटर कचोरी) is made from fresh peas saute with Indian spices and then stuffed in flour dough and then deep fried.Kachori is a specialty of Gujarat , Deep fried pastry stuffed with spicy Moog Dal.

  • Fresh peas  shelled 1 cup
  • Green or yellow moong dal 1/2 cup
  • Green chillies 5
  • Piece ginger  grated (optional) 1″
  • Garam masala powder 1/2 tsp
  • Coriander seeds  crushed coarsely 1/4 tsp
  • Chilli powder 1 tsp
  • Turmeric powder 1/4 tsp
  • Amchoor powder 1/4 tsp
  • Salt to taste
  • Each mustard & cumin seeds 1/4 tsp
  • Pinches asafoetida 3 to 4
  • Oil 1 tbsp
  • Plain flour 2 to 1/4 cups
  • melted ghee 1 tbsp
  • Salt to taste
  • Water to nead


1. Make a thick paste of the saved flour mixture, for sealing cracks.

2. Divide dough into 10parts, so also the filling. Make a firm ball of each portion of filling.

3. Shape dough portion into round. Press into a 3″ wide round, with fingers and palm.

4. Place one ball of filling in center. Pull over all edges to make a pouch.

5.  Take care not toleave behind any part of edge.

6.  Frim press together, pluck off any extra dough.

7. Flatten this round carefully on palm, with side of other palm.

8.  A flat, 1/4 inch thick round, with no leaks, folds should result.

9. Heat oil in frying pan, till smoky.

10.  Turn off flame, allow to cool for a minute.

11. Add enough kachoris to fit comfortably.

12.  Switch on flame again, on low, when sizzling slows.

13.  Do not disturb too often.

14. Flip when one side is golden.

15. Fry other side, drain, keep aside.

16. Repeat for all dough and filling.

17.  If any cracks of slits appear on frying, seal by brushing with batter paste.

18.  Fry further till well sealed.

19.  Serve hot with green or tamarind chutneys.
