Gingerbread cookies (जिंजरब्रेड कुकीज़) The make itself speaks that this cookie is loaded with flavors, It is prepared during Christmas and all through holiday season. During these cold freezing Christmas month of December this cookies are prepared and enjoyed which gives the warmness of ginger, cinnamon, cloves in every bite. This is a holiday classic, the plain sugar cookie with a twist. Usually these cookies are also shaped in to gingerbread man , other Christmas ornaments, snowflakes and decorated .

  • 1 cup butter softened
  • 1 ½ cups white sugar
  • ½ cup brown sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1 ½ tbsp. orange zest
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 tsp. baking soda
  • 2 tsp. ground cinnamon
  • 1 tsp. ground ginger
  • ½ tsp. ground cloves
  • ½ tsp. salt


  1. Cream the butter and both the sugars together. Add the egg and mix well. Mix in the orange peel. Add the flour, baking soda, cinnamon, ginger, ground cloves and salt, mixing until well combined. Chill dough for at least 2 hours,  for best ginger bread cookie  chill overnight.
  2. Preheat the oven to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C). Grease cookie sheets. On a lightly floured surface, roll dough out to 1/4 inch thick. Cut into desired shapes using cookie cutters. Place cookies 1 inch apart on the prepared cookie sheets.
  3. Bake for 10 to 12 minutes in the preheated oven, until cookies are firm and lightly toasted on the edges.
  4. Decorate them the way you want or simply sprinkle some sugar before baking.
